At some point in the process of fabricating Mom Said No Monkeys, I looked at its intertwined, branching forms and was reminded of the arms, legs, faces, and tails of monkeys. This led me to remember my desire, as a ten-year-old, to have a pet monkey. What could be more fun? I pleaded repeatedly with my parents, but they just offered a variety of reasons that a monkey would not be a suitable pet. I never convinced them otherwise.
