I began creating “Reluctant Prism” to explore new possibilities for incorporating colored lighting within an aluminum sculpture. As the simple, slightly curved and twisted form developed, it reminded me of a prism, though the sculpture form does not quite follow the straight lines of a typical prism. The twisting and bending suggest a reluctance to take that constrained geometrical form. At night, the colored light emitted by the sculpture conveys the spirit of a prism in another way.
